General Discussion / Re: Alcohol for Emissions
« on: September 14, 2016, 09:33:25 PM »
Thanks for the info. Ran it thru emissions today after adding the denatured alcohol which has ethanol in it by the way, and passed with flying colors. The only thing that was kinda high was HC at idle. Showed 350, which was the standard,. Either way it's finally legal.

I gotta run my Blazer thru Emissions in the next few days. Bought some denatured Alcohol to add to the fuel. Read online it works.

Has anybody here tried this? Does it work?

I usually screw them into the bung with a lot of antisieze on them, then weld them and let them completely cool before removing them.

If i have to do this again ill try it.

I received my right hand tap, and cleaned the threads out. Now my Drivers side Tie Rod goes in nice and smooth.  I'm just waiting for my Left Hand Tap to arrive, and i can install the Pass Side Tie Rod, and focus on the other things i need to complete my steering.

Update: so I bought another high steer arm for the drivers side knuckle to go completely high steer. Bought the threaded inserts and some DOM tubing. Cut the tube and welded the inserts into the tie rod, and the inserts warped from the heat of welding, and the tie rods won't fit. So ordered a right, and left hand tap and i am currently waiting for those ro arrive so I can clean up the threads and get my tie rod installed. SMH if it's not one thing it's another, but that's the way it is. One piece at a time. LOL :)

Find a top mount d44 knuckle for the driver side to swap in when you do balljoints.

That's exactly where I am at right now. Gonna have to find one. I was also thinking of drilling out the knuckle and using heim joint, but we will see. I'll make that decision when I'm at that point.

Eryc-My Durango isn't fit to drive to TM right now, but I'll try.

So some updates include a Solid Industries Diff Cover for the 14Bolt. A little Christmas present from my wife.

Bought a used 2WD Gearbox, Reid pass Side knuckle, and High steer arm with the studs and cone washers I need. Waiting on the new ball joints which should  here Wednesday to start my Crossover steering Conversion. Of course with every mod there are slight issues. The Arm on the Reid Knuckle mounts the Tie rod on top where O.E. mounts them from the bottom up. So a little hiccup, but I'm sure ill figure it out. At least I'm making progress. not sure about making Table Mesa, but I am focused on Florence. That's the one place I have always wanted to wheel and have never been able to make it.

nice Ruben.  I have an XJ pitman arm you can have that doesn't work for me if you can use it on your 2wd box when you get it

Hell yea, that would great. Thanks Eryc. Hold it for me. When I get my Box I'll come get it.

Took the Blazer for a drive after the 14 bolt swap, oh and complete Brake job. Not sure I like the 4 spd. It's mechanical and some work to shift. So im gonna look into a Hydraulic Clutch swap, or may just put in an automatic.

Steering is very sloppy. To the point it's really not safe, so next Mod is Crossover Steering.

Never Ending :)

Nice to see the progress....now get and wheel with us already

Thats the plan Tony. My Financial situation is improving so things are looking up.

Finally got the 14 bolt in, but of course with one modification theres always another. Brakes wont gravity bleed, and shock housing hits the axle with the stock mounts. So I have to cut those off and weld in some new ones.

Best news for me is I found classic car insurance for $163 a year. So I wont have to go thru emissions

2 much to do to make FF. Haven't touched it since monday. Working 12 hour shifts all week.

Still needs steering upgrades, may need gears, some clutch work, emissions, and insurance

I'm hoping for Table mesa.

So I decided to spend some Money to get my 14FF swap going. Picked up a Shackle Flip kit from Offroad Design. The 14 Bolt I got came with 56" leaf springs bolted to it, so the flip kit will make things easier to make these springs fit.

I removed the Semi Float, and  installed the full float. its really nice when everything slides into place.

out with the old

in with the new
