Builds / 77 Jimmy

So I saved $1k  to buy axles for my Buggy build then came across this on Craigslist, and could not pass it up. Runs and drives. No fuel gauge so I can't take it too far. Steering has crazy amount of play. Think the worm gear in the gearbox is bad. Have alot of small odds and ends to take care of but a hell of a deal for a grand. Spent every penny I had saved so repairs have to wait til I get more coin.

General / Dana 30 shims
« on: March 06, 2013, 12:00:42 PM »
Shims on a D30. If you have changed gears in a D30 did you leave the Shims between the carrier and carrier bearings or installed the bearings without them? If you installed the bearings without the shims where did you place them to shim the carrier?

I can't see leaving them between the carrier and bearing cuz then you have to continue to remove the bearing to add or remove shims to bet the backlash right.

Jeep / Another Jeep question
« on: January 24, 2012, 08:37:36 AM »
I'm looking for the Upper control arm bushings that are installed in the Axle. Any of you XJ owners have a part number I can use?

Checked Autozone and Napa and can't seem to find the bushings I need, or the parts guy has no idea what I'm talking about.

So can I get some help from some Jeepers?

Jeep / XJ Steering brace?
« on: November 21, 2011, 02:04:07 PM »
Ok since my XJ has 33' tires i keep reading its a good idea to get some kind of brace for the steering gearbox. Im looking at the brace that clamps to the box and attaches to the pass side of the frame. Will this brace do the job or do you recommend an additional piece like the frame plates?

I went down to 4 wheel parts today to see what they have but they didnt have anything in stock so i thought i better ask some of the Jeep guys what they are running or recommened before i buy.

General Discussion / Getting Spotted in the Desert
« on: August 11, 2011, 11:15:20 AM »
Due to the Death of the Missing Offroader i would like everyone who can to give tips on how to get spotted in the Desert or Mountains if you are stranded. LETS KEEP THE CRITICISM TO A MINIMUM!!! JUST GIVE YOUR IDEAS PLEASE!!!!!

One i heard from work is to take your spare tire, and light it on fire. Maybe use gas of starter fluid to help ignite it.

But that should produce black smoke that can be seen from miles away and would be investigated by someone.

Trail Runs / Crown king August 27th, Night Run
« on: July 12, 2011, 03:46:00 PM »
:hack:August 27th myself and some guys from work are gonna do a night run the Backway to Crown King. Will be Camping overnight probably do some fishing at Horsethief Lake than head home Sunday Afternoon. Were meeting at 7pm at the Airdown spot. Anyone is welcome!!

PLEASE have your riggin running as well as possible for this Run. Being at night adds difficulty already we dont need anymore. Also we will be doing a straight run to the top. Not looking to test our abilities on side trails. Again being at night already adds to the difficulty scale and most of the rigs that are going are just trail riders.

Thanks Guy's. Im excited to get some dirt under my tires so lets do some wheelin :headbang:
