Builds / The Beast 2.0?
« on: September 16, 2018, 09:10:33 PM »
Drug home project #3...........I may have a problem, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity

This rig is going to get thrown together fast with almost no money into it. Hoping to trail wheel it before the end of the year

Below is all of the parts we already have laying around

350 crate motor with Holley Fuel Injection
TH400 (needs rebuild)
NP203/205 doubler (needs adapter to trans)
Dana 60 front w/4.56 gears and locker, chromalloy shafts, PSC Hydro Assist
Shaved 14bff (came with the truck) I already have a line on a 4.56 14 bolt (needs disc brakes and ring turned down)
Suspension is all staying original. I just need to change out one of the front main leafs
We have a whole wiring harness set up for the 350 we will swap into this rig
I still have the old smittybuilt winch from my blazer
Going to add a few more supporting tubes to the roll cage. I have all of the tubing laying around the house.

Need to find seats and buy seat belts, but we might just use the Jeep seats until we find something cheap.
All of the plumbing will need to be done
Need a shifter for the trans
Also need to find a set of tires and wheels which will be where most of the money for the build goes.

General / New Storage
« on: January 28, 2018, 11:31:54 PM »
Spent most of the weekend putting new storage boxes in the backyard. Not super exciting but it was probably entertaining to watch us try and kill ourselves! Things got pretty sketchy in multiple situations, but at the end of the day we have 2 new storage boxes in the backyard where our racecars will be parked.

Fabrication Tech / Fixture Table
« on: December 26, 2017, 02:17:37 PM »
Figured I would post this incase anyone is looking into a welding table/fixture table/chassis table.

Earlier this year I was planning on building or buying plans for a chassis table to build our buggy chassis on. After a ton of research and talking with other shops who have dealt with this in the past, I came across a company building fixture tables for a pretty affordable price. https://weldtables.com/

Everything is CNC cut and falls together into a puzzle that you really can't mess up. Below is one of the tables I ordered. I got 2 4x4s and I was supposed to get 2 short leg kits that put the table top at 24"...... they sent us standard leg kits. Hopefully they send us the correct ones this weekend.

They also do table tops if you don't need a whole fab block and they will size it any way you need it.

« on: February 27, 2013, 08:05:10 AM »
anyone want to carpool out to Congress AZ for the WE rock competition? I got up to 4 seats in my car if anybody is wanting to go. I plan on leaving a gas station in town around 8am and we will probably be back between 8 and 9pm depending on when the competion ends. I just ask that you pitch in 5 or 10 bucks for gas depending on how many people tag along

General Discussion / Fishing season
« on: October 03, 2012, 07:46:04 AM »
I am down for most of the beginning of the wheeling season and probably till after KOH. So until then I am going to try enjoying a little fishing friday nights and weekends (hence the reason I bought the sami). Is there anyone else down for the beginning of wheeling season that wants to go hit some lakes and rivers? I do not have a boat but I'm hoping to find some secluded shore fishing once I get the sami running. Probably Pleasent, Bartlett, and verde river for the most part. Maybe go up north for some trout fishing or out to rosevelt if we want to see some different scenery. I think Durfee will be tagging a long everyonce and a while so just post up. If i dont have your number I will get it and give you a call when I go out.

Builds / "Fat Guy in a Little Coat"-'87 Samurai build
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:26:47 PM »
I just picked up a new dirt cheap budget camping rig

Specs:
1987 Suzuki samurai
Stock carb'd POS 1.3 (oil pump is fubared)
Stock drive train
Stock sized street radials
Well yea all stock with no doors, top and a bedlinered interior.
But it does have a bullet hole in the tailgate!

Plans are currently:
Get it running and driving
Make it reliable
Find some doors and a top
SPOA lift and some 31" mud terrains
Any suspension/steering mods required for SPOA
Beat the living hell on it

For now this is just a dirt road rig that will get me to camping/shooting/fishing places. If I decide I like it, I may start looking into upgrades that will be needed to run a handful of easier trails and may take over my blazer as my main trail rig while I start going to school. We will see, only time will tell.

Trail Pics & Vids / Parker wheeling 4/12-4/14
« on: April 14, 2012, 10:45:47 PM »
Azoffroader had their first annual Parker camp and wheel event this week, and I was fortunate enough to have Nate tow my hoopty out there for a few days. Thursday we ran Deliverance, Dutchess, the Duke, and True Grit. Friday was Truman's revenge, Rio Lobo, and President's Choice. Saturday we ran Dutchess and Duke again then hit up the desert bar before heading home. Parker has some really good, narrow, and tough trails. Most of them remind me of Anaconda except narrower, twistier, and harder with a handful of big water falls mixed in.

I snapped a V-belt on true grit, bent a tie rod end trying to turn with no power steering, then had a fuel pump take a crap in front of napa in town. Pretty good solid weekend for my truck with little to no problems with a tiny bit of body damage. My winshield is a little hard to look through. Hopefully people upload some pics soon

General Discussion / ditch it? or no?
« on: March 13, 2012, 10:45:35 AM »
So my grandpa is bugging me to give him my Cummins. I have had it for a year and a half now and have only managed to collect a few parts for it. He can get me a decent running and driving suburban or longbed in trade for it and I have really been thinking about it. I am still 50/50 but the more I think about it, the better getting rid of it sounds. I have no title for the Cummins, it has 250k on it with original 727. It has been sitting for 3 years...

What would you guys do in my situation?

If I keep the Cummins It will require being fixed, getting a title, flushing all the fluids and praying the tranny doesnt blow up immediatly. Both of my grandparents have terminal cancer so I might not have anywhere to store it very soon. Or I can fix it and sell it.

If I trade for a longbed or suburban I can use it as a tow rig and hope I have a place to store it for a while. Or I can sell it and make a few bucks. Or I can take the 350 out of if and toss it into my rig and sell the the rest..........

Trail Pics & Vids / The Reshakedown run 1/7/12
« on: January 07, 2012, 04:40:17 PM »
Today Brent, Harley, and I set out to run CD for Harley's last shakedown before KOH, as well as my first attempt at a "harder" trail. We flew through lower all the way up to the big fall in about 30 minutes. I only got a few pics of Brent going up the last small fall on CD1.

Once we made our way up to the big fall, I got out to get video of Harley's attempt. 3 seconds later he was already on his side LOL

Then we got him back on all 4s and he busted another main leaf!  :banghead: We decided that I should work my way up the right side in case he needed help up to the top ( damn I was really looking forward to trying the left line). After a few shots at the right line I finally found some traction. As I worked my way to the top, my whole rig felt like someone took the carpet out from under my feet and I began to slide sideways across the fall almost rolling down a 10 ft water fall. my boatsides and frame saved my rig from rolling. So here i am sitting in my rig standing on the brakes with my wheels clocked hard so I don't slip backwards. Harley winched up the left side and hooked up to me where I finally got to the top. I also managed to blow up my Power steering pump seal at the same time. Then of coarse, Brent walked up the right line with no slipping at all ( I need some PBRs). then we got to the small notch that ate my rig for dinner. My tires kept slipping off the wall and right into the hole where my cab would jam me into the notch. After a few attempts Harley pulled me out with a strap where one of my IROKs popped off the bead in a spot where we could not fix it. Ended up destroying one of my rims pretty good and smashing up my cab, almost hitting up the windsheild.

Once again, Brent walks right through with no slipping (did I mention i need some PBRs). Finally after 3 hours of being on the trail we headed to the main road and back to the tow rig for a short day of wheeling.

here is some of our small carnage Harley and I had

once I got home, I realized I pealed back my crossmember a little. It's a good thing I put that square spacer there or we may have been screwed on CD

Over all it was a beautiful day of wheeling. Had a blast even though I am dissapointed I had to take a couple straps for the first time since I built my rig. Thanks to Harley and Brent for all the help I got getting my fat a** off the trail

I know there are more pics. Hopefully we actually get to see them

oh, and I think we decided that all problems we had today were Matt's fault for not showing up  :flipoff:

Are you guys still thinking about a big table mesa event? I think it would be good to have a big event to start the season and a big event to end it. One at fj one at tm to give everyone a shot at making it to a big event. Just tossing it back out there to get some gerbils turning

"GAY! I'm not gay. I sell propane and propane accessories"
