Been along time folks. I've just been so busy with work and life, haven't really had any free time. In the last year or so since I've logged on, I made some minor but important progress. Got 3 new power window motors in and working. Lift gate had a bad latch safety override switch I had to bypass to get working. Got all new window moldings and seals to keep cockpit dry. Replaced just about every gasket and seal on the motor so no more leaks. And the most important step of all - fixed the slippin transmission. Bought a Performance Automatic stage 1 valve body and deep sump cooling fin trans pan, adjusted the shift linkage on the tranny side while valve body was out. Drives like a dream now. Transmission is almost smooth enough to earn the ultimate compliment any tranny can get, that it shifts like a Turbo Hydromatic lol.

Sounds good. Ill have to stick to baby trails again as i still haven't fixed my tranny yet, so if anyone else has a stockish truck and wants to do some sight seeing.

Also, will there be any ATV and/or side by side groups or trail runs. Ive got a buddy who wants to come with his.

Yea, i honestly prefer a vertical front grip on a small light fighting rifle, but for whatever reason I love the look of the mil spec rounded handgaurd.

So naturally as a fan of historic weaponry, i chose to model my project after an M16A2/M4 style rifle,  but with the modern upgrade barrel, bolt, and trigger. Then, i thought the alternating silver and black looked bitchin so i went out and bought a standard Bushmaster mag to complete it.

It took 3 series of disassembly, cleaning, and oiling, as well as some breaking in, before it finally started cycling properly, but by the end of the test run/break in process it works great. The midlength gas system, heavy m16 cut bolt, and brand new still stiff buffer spring makes this thing virtually recoil-less.

As much as id like to, im not referring to rolling a fat one and passing it around the campfire. What high temp did you come across in this heat wave. Mine was @ I-17 & Camelback, at only 1:30, so im sure we can get much higher this afternoon.

I followed Eryc's advice, but still managed to knick the receiver in 1 spot. Had a hard time driving in the magcatch , swung too hard, missed my aim point and tore right thru the protective tape. Im sure a sharpie will cover it up fine. I almost lost an eye trying to get the front take down pin installed, and i spent 30min scowering the room with a magnet till i picked up the lost detent pin from said incident. But other than that, it was surprisingly quick and easy. Upper kit shows up next week.

Btw, if anyone else is looking for a cheap build, Tombstone Tactical has these Sionics stripped lowers in stock here in town. Out the door with tax was just under $58.  Cheaper than buying one online and paying an FFL transfer fee.

And yes, ive been reloading for awhile. I used to do .223 when my buddy Joe had an AR, but i sold everything to another friend when Joe git rid of the rifle. I dont remember the exact load, but it was somewhere around 24gr of Imr4064, CCI benchrest primer, and a 63gr Sierra gameking bullet. Consistent half inch groups at 100yrds out of a 16in barrel, so i can only imagine just how good you can do with the longer heavier barrels.

Yea, longer barrel will always yeild better accuracy and velocity. But honestly, its a .223, its pretty limited on range already, and lets be real here, im not gunna take an assault rifle hunting, thats what i have Remington and Winchester for. I have some little 130gr Speer Varmint HP handloads for my .308 if i were to go huntin for yotes. The AR is for fun (and short range gun fights if theres ever an economic/government collapse).

Cool. Thanks for the info. Im going with the budget oriented yet good shooter with easy maintenance, so im buying a nice stainless barrel, nickel coated BCG, and upgraded nickel coated trigger components. Those 3 things make up more than half the price of the total build lol. Everything else is pretty run of the mill basic.

Now you're speaking my language.  If you need any help or tools let me know.  I've built multiple AR's in different variations.
I'm currently working on a 6.5 creedmor on an AR10 platform
Do i need anything special other than a fine punch, and an AR armorers tool?
Also, can i just say WTF Stoner. There are so many springs, pins, and parts to these. My SKS has like 12 parts to the entire gun and requires zero tools for full disassembly. My FAL is designed to be fully disassembled using only a single rifle cartridge as the tool. If the AR wasnt so accurate, and so user friendly, id say this is a retarded design. But its a great functiong rifle, so i guess Stoner knew what he was doing.

Ive got a fun collection of classic military, and old west weapons, but im finally gunna join the 21st century and get a new gun.
With the Bronco on hold waiting for a special order flange/cv assembly (that i ordered 3 weeks ago and still have no eta) i need something to tinker with. So, i figure, what the hell, lets build an AR. The first round of parts arrived today...



I assume at least a few of my AlloffroadAZ friends have built one of these and will be able to assist if i cant figure it out?

Toyota / Toyota 3.0L to 3.4L swap

Anybody out here ever do one of these?

Some co-workers and I have been attempting this one, taking the old 3.0L V6 out of his 94 Taco, and swapping in a 3.4L out of a 2002 4-Runner. We then got ahold of an engine harness & computer from a wrecked 02 Tacoma V6 4WD manual trans, and clutch & flywheel for same truck configuration (per Toyota tech support, the proper combination to get. very nice of them to email us back btw, if only they would help on the next issue). Everything seems to work together, although none of it has been the direct swap the folks on the internet claim it to be, almost everything has required some amount of modifying.

The stage we're at now, and don't really know exactly how to proceed is the wiring. A conversion harness is out of the question due to time & money (mostly time,as both websites that sell them and 2 shops here in town that claim to do it are all min of a month out to get anything made). I can find all kinds of sites & forums about this particular, and very common, engine swap for older Yoda trucks, all of which proclaiming about how easy it is to wire the new engine harness to the older truck, but none that really give any detail into the specifics of the wiring. We have Haynes manuals for both trucks, and access to Toyota's tech info website, so we have all of the wiring diagrams.

My question though, and the one I'm hoping someone here has some kind of insight on, is: Do I hard wire the new engine harness & computer into the existing vehicle body harness using the wiring diagrams to get the wire functions to match up? IE; ECM power out of new ECM wired into ECM power on body harness, gauge to guage, fuel pump to fuel pump, ignition lead to ignition lead, ect ect ect...

Or is it not that simple? Any thoughts?

BTW, I do have 4 engine harnesses (or part of) and 2 complete body harnesses to work with, so no issues on not having the right plugs or enough wires. And can take pictures of anything you want/need.

And one last thing before you all say it.... I already told him he should of just put a small block Chevy in it.

I got pretty sick & tired of spilling my drink every time I turn, and the sh** a** Ford armrests built into the seats not staying in place, so I decided to by-pass the Ford engineering, and replace it with much higher quality designs...

Now if only I were smart enough to figure out how to power up the USB port inside the armrest so I could charge my cell phone.

Ditched the aluminum wheels in favor of a set of factory F150 steel wheels. Some gloss black paint to cover the surface rust, and a new pair of muds up front.

I always thought a TH400 was i destructible but i guess that doesnt mean the case cant break lol

So now that everyones home and had a chance to unwind a lil, what all damage did everyone tally up?

I got off easy since i didnt run any real trails, just poked a hole in a tire, cracked a rim, and peeled my rear bumper back. A used wheel, a tire plug, and backing my truck into a pole to straighten the bumper is all i need before the next outing.

Adjusted throttle valve. Reattached speedo cable that got yanked out sat night. Sucked out some Mercron atf and replaced it with 1qt of Lucas, and half a qt of Type-F. Lets hope those small things help out a little bit.

On a bright note, found out its an AOD trans not an E4OD, so its comparatively cheap as hell to have rebuilt if need be.

Well, took OJ out last night for the 1st time. Went to the north side of lake pleasent with my buddy Joe and his ZJ. Im not familiar with the area, but he is (since a big fisher and is out there every other weekend looking for a new spot), and i was surprised at how many roads and trails are actualy out there.
Anyways, sorry i didnt get any pics (other than a few of us just testing the flex of his new lift), but i learned a few lessons:

1. Full sized trucks dont steer or manuever for sh** in 4wd.

2. Wear a back brace when wheeling a Bronco.

3. Never let your friend Joe lead the expedition. When you're scraping up your rockers, high centering on t-case skid, getting hung up on your diff, and dragging your bumper everywhere, you're probably going through rougher sh** than you should on your first ever outting. His Jeep never flinched, but my fat a** truck had some struggles at times. And i wasnt scared i was tearing my sh** up, i was scared that when my pos Ford broke down his Dana 35 axle was not gunna be stout enough to tow me back out over that sh**. The nice camping/fishing spot was well worth the ride though.

4. I should start saving for a transmission. Whenever i got real bound up, or tried a real steep climb, and needed a good heavy dose of skinny pedal, the bit** would slip. Just wouldnt bite in first gear when there was too much resistance. Only once did i need him to pull me, and part of that was cause my bumper was snagged on a rock, but it sure was annoying and stressful.
If anyone has any suggestionsto help that im all ears. Ive heard of people putting a qt of Ford type-F trans fluid in their hotrod to help the tranny grip better and shift firmer, might be worth a try in the meantime before i can afford a rebuild or trans swap.

Needless to say, ill be running with the babies in the stock 4x4 group next week in Florence.

Nothing major here in terms of progress, but im pretty proud of the ingenuity. The truck had no battery hold down, and uses the crappy style that has a little plastic block to hold it down at the bottom only, so i was gunna just ratchet strap it before FF, but then decided i have 50+ cars with which to borrow from, so i used the existing bolt holes in the battery tray and dug thru some train wrecks til i found a combination that worked. Used an offset hold down from a '15 Explorer, a long hold down post from a Corolla to run thru the old hold down bolt hole, and a short post from an Altima to hook the bracket on the back of the tray, and the sumbitch lines up perfect.



Then i put in a negative cable cause the current one has a short and occasionally needs a lil jiggle to start the truck, and a new rear speed sensor. Finaly ready for some dirt...
