2012 Tundra - CEL and gas mileage reduction
« on: December 18, 2017, 04:37:56 AM »
Hi everyone, I was wondering, what can be the problem of bad gas mileage and CEL on the 2012 Tundra?
It is 4.6 L. I haven't done anything to its engine, haven't changed the gas I fill it with...
What could've gone wrong with it?
Thanks,
Sam

Go to Auto Zone, etc., and have them pull the codes for free. That will point you in the right direction as far as needed service or parts replacement.

That's what I've done. I had the codes checked, and it showed the oxygen sensor failure.
Now I am about to replace that sensor, and I wanted to ask you folks, do you think it is a good idea to install an aftermarkewt sensor to save a bit?
Here's the sensor I was looking at - https://www.carid.com/2012-toyota-tundra-emissions-parts/denso-oxygen-sensors-710413086.html
Denso. I know they make spark plugs, so how good are their sensors?

I would only buy an aftermarket sensor if it comes with the harness and weather pack plug. An O2 sensor's wiring is extremely important to it's proper operation.

However I put an aftermarket O2 sensor on my truck last year that came with the whole harness and it has already failed. I need to go to the dealer and get a factory one
