Race Heep
« on: May 14, 2017, 09:41:50 PM »
Just brought home the new racecar. Plan is to build a cheap fast racecar that will get me some time behind the wheel while I build the big racecar

Got the jeep mostly stripped down and started collecting parts for a 4 link rear, 3 link front, one ton swap. We would normally prefer to draw up and cut most of these parts ourselves, but we are running low on time trying to get 2 rigs done by January

I really wanted to jam a 4 link under there, but it just isn't possible with the rule restrictions we have

Time to start prepping this car for bracing. Got all of the glass cut out and tore most of the rear out this weekend. Just need to cut off a bracket, drop the tank and it is ready to clean up and plate.

got the fuel tank dropped and cleaned up the back half of the chassis. Also managed to get the front axle out and started clean up. We should be able to start welding and bending tube in the next couple weeks!

got the seats in!

This should be everything we need to start building the cage. We just have a bunch of logistics to get done around the yard

If the background wasn't there for context, that looks like a lot of Jeeps in and around NY city!

Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

Worked on pulling the tcase out, cleaning the subframe, and ripping out all of the a/c under the hood. After we got the tcase out, we realized we made a huge mistake.....

if you look in the pic below, the floor is basically form fitted to the drivetrain. There is no way we can run a passenger's side tcase and stay within the rules of 4600. I will put a call into Advanced Adapters today or tomorrow and see if they will swap cases for me or ship me a new case with instructions. We also have to toss the dana 60 we had plans for... If anybody needs a built passenger's drop dana 60 let me know. I am going to have Ruffstuff build us a custom front 9"

Well good news! Advanced Adapters is going to swap cases for us for free. All I have to pay is shipping. Should have that shipped out this week.

I also got ahold of Ruffstuff and talked with their engineers. They are going to build me a custom from 9" that meets the specs of a Dodge Dana 60 only driver's drop. This will allow us to reuse our shafts and all of our outers. the only thing I need is a drop out that they will provide as well.

Eryc wants the Dana 60. I will also have an ARB, 4.56 gears, and master install kit for sale

Spent dozens and dozens of hours over the last 2 weeks grinding and cleaning like crazy. We finally have the entire subframe cleaned up and the rear portion of the bracing welded in place. We also have most of the rear axle cleaned and welded up. I accidently ordered the incorrect pinion bridge, so we are waiting on that.

We were really hoping to have the subframe done and the cage started by now, so we have a lot to catch up on!

Stayed up way too late last night assembling the 14 bolt outers. Ruffstuff 3/4 ton brackets which will also go in the front. Picked up a set of 5 wheels from Shawn. We will try to clean these up and make them look good! More parts for the front axle showed up. Can't wait till the axle arrives!!!

You making Congress in the Jeep?
Hoopty with some decent parts that usually end up breaking.

I don't think WE Rock or Dirt Riot is going to be at Congress this year. The owner's wife died and is selling the land. Rich and Shelley are supposed to have the event location up any day now though.

Our goal is to make it to the first dirt riot, but I'm not very confident we can make it happen. Too many parts coming in late

When I ordered the Atlas, we hadn't torn the Jeep apart yet to measure the input shaft length. We took a guess at the 3 or 4 options and guessed wrong. Luckily it is easy to swap incase you are ever interested in buying an atlas with the incorrect input shaft!

All that Artec and Ruff Stuff Specialties "stuff" is much nicer looking than "Bob's hillbilly garage" stuff.

It is very nice! A little heavy for my taste, but it saves us months in design and plasma table time. Once we have a shop and plasma table, I'd prefer to build a lot of this stuff in house

Finished up our Artec Pinion guard/bridge and bolted on the new Ruffstuff diff cover!

Got a 50 foot extension cord built so I could finish welding the jeep plating. Nate disassembled the dash and is working on labeling all of the wiring before removing the harness completely. Also managed to clean up all 5 wheels and get them painted
