Blue Blazes
« on: February 03, 2013, 01:28:29 PM »
Well I knew itd happen...I got the blazer thinkin "im gonna leave it alone n keep it for a nice trail rig...regular 6" lift. 35s. Nothin crazy.   Well....that went bye bye when i blew the tranny out of it...found a good deal on a th350/np203 and full float 14b/dana44 with both shafts, ubolts, good lug nuts with 9/16 studs. So i put all that under there...still with 35s. Then a buddy bought a toyota that was runnin 38.5x14.50 thornbirds and wanted smaller tires. So we swapped.  Ran it that way for a bit. Broke a few front shafts. Steering sucked. Wanted to do crossover.   So i decided to...

Go berserk...

The current specs- 89 chevy blazer. Tbi 350/th350/np203. Runnin hedman headers and flowmaster 40s.  Dana 61(yes 61) front with 4.88s and spool. High steer, crossover, and hydro assist. Made of 1.5x.250 dom and 7/8s hiems. Bent drag link. Psc box, pump and ram. Extended the factory resevoir with a piece of 1.5" hose. I swapped a set of 52" springs that i mixed to get the right ride hieght stiffness. I made longer shackles. Front end is pushed appx 3" forward.  Rear is ff14b with 4.88s and a spool. Mixed spring pack and longer shackles in the back as well.  Running the 38.5x14.50 r15 thornbirds that i grooved about 11lbs out of.

Gotta still make some sliders and put front bumper and winch back on. Going to use a tractor top link and make a center mounted anti-wrap bar. And make a light bar for my 30" double.   Put a set of 125db roots horns on it. And gonna drop a pair of 10" subs in it.

Heres my photobucket link for pics...    http://s72.photobucket.com/albums/i190/bumblebeeyz/Blue Blazes

so are you running 52's in the front?  how close is your tie rod to your springs when at full compression?  also do you install bump stops?
i'm running 54" springs in the front with hi steer and i am getting concerned that its going to be real close.

looks good, nice work
just all bad luck at this point.  whatever is the worst that can happen will

I R 2 dumb to post the pics here...how do i do it?

Yea im runnin 52s. My tierod at full bump is actually further away then at droop...it was fine until i put the pinion shim in there...that made it alot closer. But it really doesnt seem to rub. My problem is my draglink and tierod get real close at full bump. They hit a bit.  Then my bolt for the hiem at the pitman hits the tierod a little too...i havent extended the bumps yet...may limit it a little on the uptravel so that all stops...and i MAY pull 1 leaf out of the pack still...and thatll give me some additional room.

Jake thats not funny!  Might even be sooner then that if i f*** it up at KOH...  but in general i prefer a full body. Whether or not itll get wrinkled up...thats TBD.

And eff that...i dont even like fishin that much unless im usin dynamite...and people seem to frown on that.  I dont like my rigs to sit...they need to be runnin so when i break one or the other i have a backup plan

Your backdoor is like throwin pennies down a mexico street?  Loud empty *tink tink tinktinjtink* as it bounces to a stop?   That doesnt sound fun at all!  Lol.     We'll be there tho!

I thought id update a little...

We pulled an all nighter to get the rig ready and loaded up for koh...made the long trip out there. All the hard work, overtime, late nights...and guess what frickin happens!

The rig did forkin awesome! Way better then i expected! We ran it up some pretty nasty sh**!   I dinged up the body a little bit. Got ran over by matt thorson...ttc winner and got a taillight knocked out.  My driver door window blew out when i slammed the door shut. Few minor things went wrong. Broke the ear off my steering box because my ram was over pushing what my box would do. Welded it up at the miller tent. Blew a radiator hose...patched it with a rayovac flashlight and got back to camp. Dropped a ujoint in the dunes. But otherwise it kicked a**! Couldnt have asked for more out of it!  We even ran the whoops at abou 65mph and didnt die!  It was a sikk trip!  Loved it!
