Just wheel it and what ever gets smashed replace it or just keep wheeling. Starting to sound like another forum we know of that is scared to wheel! :shakehead:
It started life as a 1987 Samurai and turned into a Psychobilly Cadillac .
Wheel hard or stay home!
Build, wheel, break then repeat

Ok time to get my thread back on track. I've been busy the last couple days and the rig now has it's front suspension fully mocked up and I put it's own weight on and cycled it as much as I dared on jack stands and there's no binding. I was suprised to find out I got it closer to level than I expected, it sits a little high in the front and since I expect the new rear springs to settle in a bit I'm going to put 4" shackles in the back and it should be just about right. Now I have a bunch of welding to do then start on the steering ram and work on getting it running.

The front suspension is done! No more taking it apart and putting it back together, I've put it together for the last time.

This is what me and my friend came up with on the shackle end to make up for the wider spring width. The springs will need some new bushings in the future. Please be sure to note the bondo, yes I said bondo, cracking on the frame.

are you going to extend the engine area or just have the front part extended like that in front of the core support?
just all bad luck at this point.  whatever is the worst that can happen will

Eventually the hood and fenders will be stretched to make room for a Fixed Or Repaired Daily 351 but that won't happen until after he gets out and wheels it awhile and I have a chance to get my toy built. We are planning on putting a winch up front and I still need to mount the bumper and lights and when the tires are in place it doesn't look quite as stretched.

I made some more progress, I got the hydro steering finished, changed the engine oil and started the engine today. I was surprised after sitting 8 years it only ejected 1 mouse home out of the right side glass pack. The steering even works right!  :guitar:

Too bad it's not your own you're working on.  I'm sure going to miss my old dana 44 rear axle withe the smittybuilt ff 19 spline axles.

Today was a busy day on the willy's, I got the front end put together and the steering all tacked in place.  I put plugs and wires on it and fired it up to check and make sure the steering worked ok, tomorrow I can do the finish welding on the ram mount and tie rods.

Time for another update, the steering is finished except for setting the tow, drive shafts are in and all fluids are topped off. All that's left now is rear shock mounts, redo front brake lines and bleed the brakes, mount front bumper and lights and get it to idle. Almost done  ;D
Some pics of the finished steering.

Looks good Clint. You may have already said, but what kind of ram is that?

Got a lot done today, it's sitting on all four's, rear shocks are done it has brakes and with a little tuning it is ready to be backed out of garage. Still need to hook up the air line to the front axle, mount the front bumper and KC lights and put on 1 fender. Should be taking it for a drive tomorrow after work.

Thanks Eryc it has turned out nice. I took it for a drive around the block today then had to fix the fuel leak there's something wrong with the carb too, it just won't idle right at all.

This build is done for now and it's loaded on the trailer ready to go wheeling tomorrow. Can't wait to see how it does and how much fun my parents are going to have this weekend!

I'm going Friday and Saturday, my parents are heading out Thursday morning and I'm hauling the willy's up for them then bringing the trailer back so I can haul my junk down there Friday, I plan on being there by 9 am. The turn off is about the 8 1/2 mile marker, north side of the road and camp is about a 1/2 mile or so in. Tony said he knows were it's at and I will have my cb on channel 4 and my cell with me, I think I can get texts there.
